About Us

Thank you Aunt Lucille

Several years ago, our family got together for a 4th of July reunion at Aunt Lucille’s farm in Summertown, Tennessee. Out back of her house were two large blueberry bushes, about 6 foot wide and 7 feet tall. Those bushes were loaded with sweet berries!  It was love at first bite for us. After sitting down with Aunt Lucille to learn more about her blueberries, we decided to plant our own. That was the beginning of Blue Honey Farms Tennessee blueberries. Like any sort of farming, it took a little trial and error to get things really growing. But soon, our blueberries began to thrive in the healthy soil of our farm. We’ve been growing blueberries for 15 years now and today, we have over 700 blueberry bushes. We also grow blackberries, Paw Paw fruit and Muscadine grapes. And here at Blue Honey Farms, we also have Sugar Maple trees that provide the sap for our sweet Maple Syrup.

How We Grow The Best Berries

We believe in protecting the environment and the health of our customers, friends and family too. That’s why we use natural farming practices to grow our berries. Although Blue Honey Farms is not certified organic, we do use organic methods to grow. We use only compost and organic fertilizers for our blueberry bushes. And we use the bees on our farm to do the natural pollination of the blueberry bushes. Blueberries are not hard to grow, but it does take a big effort to keep them healthy and producing. We prune and mulch our bushes in the winter; check water drip lines on a regular basis and start fertilizing in February. And because we do not use any chemicals, we constantly have to pull up weeds and cut grass around the bushes. It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it.

“Farmers farm for the love of farming. They love to watch and nurture the growth of plants. They love to live in the presence of animals. They love to work outdoors. They love the weather, maybe even when it is making them miserable.” – Wendell Berry, American novelist, poet, environmental activist and farmer.

We agree with Mr. Berry. Working outside in nature is good for the body and soul. And that’s one reason why we love to farm. This may sound a bit funny, but it’s exciting to watch our blueberry bushes grow. To see thousands of berries turn blue and delicious. It’s very satisfying to know that we grew those sweet berries and we grew them naturally.

Our Goals

Our goals at Blue Honey Farms are simple – We want to grow the best berries in Williamson County with strict beliefs in growing pure, honest, healthy fruit. It’s our mission to give customers the best possible fruit that we can grow, while practicing organic growing methods and staying chemical free. We want people to enjoy our blueberries just as much as we did Aunt Lucille’s so many years ago.

We love our farm and we love our blueberries. And we want to share them with you. Come see us at the Franklin Farmers Market or visit Blue Honey Farms. Take home some blueberries and enjoy a delicious bit of farm life.
